AMORY, Miss. — Upholstery manufacturer Madison House will create a total of 85 jobs here, the Mississippi Development Authority announced last week.

The company is a division of Townhouse Home Furnishings and recently began production of mid-priced stationary furniture, including sofas, loveseats, chairs, ottomans and sectionals.

Twenty of the new jobs are already in place, a development authority press release said.

"The Madison House line has been well received at the furniture markets, and we look forward to substantial growth for our new division," Tony Watson, CFO of Townhouse Home Furnishings, said in the release.

Townhouse Home Furnishings, founded in 2002 by Jeremy Lafayette, has about 120 employees and manufacturing space totaling 170,000 square feet.

A story from WTVA, a local NBC affiliate here, Madison House began production here five months ago with workers drawn from its parent Townhouse. The story added that by February, Madison House plans to employ 75 workers.

In other Mississippi jobs news, Ashley Furniture announced last week that it plans to lay off 65 workers here due to restructuring efforts and foreign competition, the Associated Press reported. The story said Ashley has 2,900 workers in Mississippi.
